ENERGY SYSTEMS When the body starts to do physical activities a number of changes take place. The exact amount of change will depend on the intensity and duration of the activity. As mentioned in earlier topics, regular training will result in adaptation of our bodies. The type of training undertaken determines what adaptations or responses are effected. Most sports are a mixture of aerobic and anaerobic work. Training makes both energy systems better. However, the training is different for each. Aerobic respiration is the production of energy using oxygen: (C6H12O6 + O2-> CO2 + water +energy). Anaerobic respiration is the production of energy without using oxygen: C6O12O6-> Energy + lactic acid. Exercise will cause the brain to increase the number of brain signals to the heart. This will cause an increase in the heart rate. The heart rate shows how hard you are working and which energy system is being used. The fastest the heart can beat is called your maximum heart rate, and can be calculated using the formula: maximum heart rate = 220 minus your age. If the heart rate is about 60 per cent of your maximum heart rate, you are working aerobically. The actual rate is measured by taking the pulse. How fit an individual wants to be will depend on working within a range of heart rates, which is the target zones. Therefore, you must train above a minimum heart rate of 60 per cent of your maximum to gain fitness. Exercise below this will gain no aerobic benefits. This means, you must exercise below an upper limit. Once the heart rate rises above a certain point you are doing anaerobic work and lactic acid will build up and cause pain. The aerobic range should be anywhere between 70 per cent-85 per cent of the maximum heart rate. You must exercise below this point to gain aerobic benefits. This is called your aerobic training zone. The heart rates at the limits of the zone are called the training thresholds. The lower limit is the aerobic threshold. The upper limit is anaerobic threshold. An unfit person should be working at 60 per cent – 70 per cent of their maximum heart rate, a fitter person at 65-75 per cent, and a fit person at 75-85 per cent. For aerobic training, choose an activity which involves the large muscles of the body, e.g. walking, swimming, jogging, cycling etc. Work for at least 15 to 20 minutes per session at least three times per week. Work at least 60 per cent of the maximum heart rate within your aerobic training zone. Weeks of aerobic training must be done before anaerobic training. Working at, or above, 85 per cent of the maximum heart rate means you are working anaerobically. AEROBIC TRAINING EFFECTS OF – The heart grows larger, its walls gets thicker, blood volume increases. More capillaries grow, fat is burned more readily; lower resting heart rate and larger arteries, leading to lower blood pressure. – Increased fitness of lungs and respiratory system, leading to stronger rib muscles and diaphragm. Therefore the chest gets bigger during inhalation, the lungs expands further, facilitating more air and more oxygen is picked up, preventing easy tiring. – Training at high altitude (eg. in Mexico City) makes the aerobic changes described above happen very quickly and is good for anaerobic events (sprints, jumps, throws). Most training effects that take place in the muscles happen as a result of our muscles having to work without oxygen during anaerobic activities. Therefore, the actual development will include muscle hypertrophy. The muscles become larger as the individual muscle fibres grow thicker, fast-twitch muscle fibres increase in size and become more efficient in coping with lactic acid before becoming tired, the muscle cells store greater amount of ATP creatine phosphate and glycogen, and the chemical reaction in the muscles that produce energy increases in quantity, speed and efficiency. Weight training also causes muscle hypertrophy. Muscle strength increases when very heavy weight is lifted for few repetitions. Muscle power increases when heavy weight is lifted for a number of fast repetitions. Muscle endurance increases when light weights are lifted for many repetitions. Muscle Atrophy will occur when the muscles become inactive. Therefore, they become smaller and weaker. Muscle atrophy usually happens when the athlete is out of training as a result of injury. Be reminded that when lifting weights you should know your onerepetition maximum (1 RM) in order to guide the following: – Maximum strength – at least three sets of six reps at near maximum weight – Muscular power – at least three sets of 10-15, using 60-80 per cent of 1 RM – Muscular endurance – at least three sets of 20-30 reps using 40-60 per cent of 1 RM.

They add context, build suspense, and shape stories, all with a few simple motions. From smooth tracking shots and sweeping crane shots to the simpler pan, tilt, and zoom camera movements, any production should use a variety of camera movements combined with static shots. Maybe you’re just starting out in video, or maybe you just want to review the basics. Either way, knowing these fundamentals will give you a strong foundational knowledge to build your craft upon. In this article, we cover the basics of camera movements to sharpen your skills.Crane Shots Crane shots move the camera vertically with the help of a (you guessed it!) crane. Big productions will use big, expensive cranes, but there are jibs available at a manageable size and price to help you achieve the same effect. With the camera on one end and a counterweight on the other, you can get full arc shots that sweep the camera up and down with fluid, easy movements. While the jib moves up and down, the camera always stays level, capturing totally smooth footage. Crane shots are great for establishing sequences, which usually require full shots of a whole setting. They’re also useful for top-down shots when you can’t otherwise get your camera in an aerial position.Tracking ShotsIn a tracking shot, the camera moves alongside the subject or in and out of a scene. It’s a great way to follow the action in the scene with a smooth, continuous shot. These are the bread and butter of Hollywood cinematography. Hollywood achieves these shots with steadicams or glidecams, but you don’t need a big budget to make them happen. Make your own rig with short rails made from PVC pipes and a DIY dolly made from plywood and wheels, or go super basic and use a wheelchair or skateboard. Not all videos need the look of a tracking shot, but when you need it mastering this shot will add production value to your projects.Pan, Tilt, and ZoomThere are three camera principles you absolutely need to know when you’re working with a basic tripod setup: tilt, pan, and zoom. A pan shot moves horizontally from point A to point B, while a tilt shot moves vertically from point A to point B, all this on a swivel. The key to smooth pan and tilt shots is a delicate touch. Try using just one finger to push or pull the handle. A zoom shot moves in from point A to point B and can be a bit trickier to master than the pan and tilt — try marking your focal point with gaffer tape before you shoot. These three movements can enhance a scene, adding interest and letting you cover more in a single shot.These camera movements all offer creative and effective ways to tell your story, but don’t abandon the still shot once you have these down. There’s always room for a simple, static shot in any production.

Following the weekend’s training camp in Sydney, Australian Women’s Open squad member, Jessica McCall tells us about how the camp went and the squad’s excitement in the lead up to the 2015 World Cup. I always get excited when it comes to an Australian Touch Camp because although we all live pretty far apart, when we come together it feels like we see each other every week. Although when everyone arrived, we hadn’t seen each other since we were playing against each other at State of Origin a few months ago so we had the usual catch up with everyone while preparing for the start of the camp. While Belly, Phil, Swingers and Marto got the formalities out of the way about what to expect in the next six months, we had a few fresh faces that have been included into the squad which is always great to see. Hannah, Laura, Tamika and Sammy were included into the Women’s squad after an amazing year of Touch from all four of them. Belly also had asked three Under 18’s Australian reps to train with us which gave them in insight into the Australian Open’s Team and hopefully where they’ll end up in next couple of years.While we all knew that we had a fitness test before the camp, everyone was a bit on edge, especially me, as we all knew Belly likes our team to be physically fit as he likes a running game. While there were a few nervous faces and a few panic attacks, the test got under way. We ran for eight minutes, had an eight minute break and then ran for eight minutes again. While it doesn’t sound like much, the test is quite physically demanding and even more mentally demanding. Luckily I had Hannah Dyball helping me every step along the way but the whole team really put in a massive effort which I think comes down to our attitude to retaining the World Cup. With fitness out of the way, Belly decided to put us into two teams: Cows and Ducks. The Ducks were practically any squad member under 20 years of age versus the Cows which we classified as the older but more experienced. Although the Cows didn’t possess the youthfulness or the speed of the Ducks, the Cows had experience and experience won us the first challenge of line attack. The young ones were punished by Phil with V-sit holds and the young ones were determined to get back at us. Dummy-half running was next on the agenda and my team, the Cows thought it would be a good idea to give the Ducks some confidence and let them win this challenge, although this punishment would happen after our 20 metre Touch game. 20 metre Touch is a variation of Beach Touch and the Old Cows were once again winners so we ended up doing the punishment which was planks. The day was over after Ice Baths and everyone is a little sore and sorry but a very successful first day.We arrived on Sunday quite early and as everyone is booting up, Laura Peattie realises she forgot her boots. So lucky a Touch friend lived close by and her dad Ray Ray drove her boots out to her. The morning session revolved around driving patterns and yet again another challenge occurred with the experienced Cows winning again and the young Duckies had to army crawl the whole length of the field. This was one challenge us Cows knew we had to win as we probably wouldn’t be able to stand up if we had to do this punishment.We then had a proper game against the West’s Division One Men’s team which really showed us how far we’ve come in the space of two days. Our driving, talk and defence was amazing and the commitment shown by every player was world class. When the game finished we all knew we that we had something special within this squad and every player could pull on the Green and Gold jersey without any hesitation. If only we were allowed to take 20 players to the World Cup as I believe everyone deserved a spot to take the field in the World Cup.Our whole team would like to thank Belly, Swingers and Phil for such an organised camp and we all know the direction in which the Australian Women’s Open team is headed in. Kelvin Sampson, the former coach of Indiana, has taken over as interim Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale, who took a leave of absence on Saturday to deal with a family matter.Sampson said McHale called him Saturday afternoon and asked him to coach the team.”Hopefully whatever the family matter is, it gets taken care of,” Sampson said. ”That’s the most important thing.”There is no timetable for the return of the second-year coach and Hall of Fame player.Rockets general manager Daryl Morey didn’t provide any further details on the specifics of the situation, but expressed his concern for McHale.”Kevin is a devoted family man who is needed back home in Minnesota at the moment,” Morey said. ”The Rockets organization will keep Kevin and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”Sampson said he addressed the players in a film session Saturday afternoon and that he hopes they can use this setback as a positive.”Oftentimes in life we have things happen to us, and we have to make decisions on how we’re going to react to them,” Sampson said. ”This is one of those times. We lost our leader. I think we can use this as a catalyst to bring us together and fight for him.”Sampson was thinking more about McHale than worrying about his task of coaching Houston against the Pistons before Saturday night’s game. He said the fact that there weren’t high expectations for the Rockets entering this season makes stepping in easier.”I don’t think it’s that challenging,” he said. ”We have a young team and we have a new team. I think it would be a lot more challenging if we were … the No. 1 ranked team in the league. That might be a little more challenging. We’re still growing.”Sampson is in his second season with the Rockets after spending three years as an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Kolkata: Bandhan-Konnagar, a not-for-profit organisation, registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961 celebrated its ‘Development Day’ on Thursday, completing 18 years of service at ITC Sonar. Commencing its journey in the year 2001, the organisation has transformed the lives of around 1.8 million families spread across 11 states of India – West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Telangana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, Also Read – Heavy rain hits traffic, flightsTripura and Chhattisgarh. The organisation has 818 field offices spread across 10,793 villages. More than 2,300 employees are actively involved in the welfare of the disadvantaged families.The Development Day event was graced by Craig L Hall, Honourable US Consul General, Kolkata along with many distinguished guests like Debasish Sen, Additional Chief Secretary, IT & Electronics and Chairman, HIDCO, Saurabh Das, Principal Secretary, Panchayat & Rural Development Department, Also Read – Speeding Jaguar crashes into Merc, 2 B’deshi bystanders killedDushyant Nariala, Principal Secretary, Department of School Education and other luminaries. January 20, 2004The compost bins in camp have moved to the south side of the poulonia garden. Agriculture crewmembers are working on additional bins.
